Check 13 of 14 · AI search readiness

Citation readiness: can an AI assistant quote this page from the raw HTML?

What the citation readiness check reads in the HTML the server sends (title, description, one H1, the opening, entity schema, prices as text), and why a page that cannot be quoted is not cited.

What it checks

From the HTML the server sends, without running any script, we read the <title>, the meta description, how many H1s the page has, how many words of real text sit at the top of the main content, which entity types the JSON-LD declares (Organization, WebSite, Product, SoftwareApplication, LocalBusiness, Person, Service), and whether a price appears as text rather than only in an image or after a script runs. Facts, not a guess about rankings.

Why it matters for search engines

Search engines build the snippet from the title, the description and the first readable text, and they read structured data to understand what the page is about. A page with no description, several H1s or an empty opening gets a snippet written for it, often a poor one.

Why it matters for AI assistants

An assistant that cites sources quotes what it can read on the first pass. Text that exists only after JavaScript, a title set by a script, a price drawn in an image: none of it can be quoted, so the page is passed over for one that states its point in plain HTML.

How to fix it

Set the <title> and a 50 to 160 character meta description in the HTML head. Use exactly one H1 that names the page. Open the main content with a paragraph that says what this is and for whom, at least 40 words. Add a JSON-LD block naming the organisation, site or product. Write prices as text.

A detail line from a real run
Quotable from the raw HTML: title (54 chars), meta description, one H1, 112 words up top, Organization, WebSite schema, 3 prices as text.

What quietwatch reports

ok when the title, description, a single H1, a 40-word opening and an entity schema are all present. warn when some are missing or the description is the wrong length, naming each gap. fail when there is no title, no H1 or fewer than 20 words of readable text at the top. unknown when the page could not be fetched.
